Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we keep it safe.

Last updated: May 2025

At Ijèbú ni wá, we handle your personal data with care and transparency. We only collect what we need, we protect it diligently, and we give you control over how it is used. This document tells you everything you need to know.

1. Introduction

Ijèbú ni wá ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit or make a purchase through our platform.

Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the Platform. This policy was last updated in May 2025 and applies to all users — buyers, sellers, and visitors.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us, including: name, email address, phone number, delivery address, and payment details when you register an account or place an order.

Vendor accounts additionally require: business name, bank account information (for payouts), a description of goods or services offered, and identity verification documents as required by our onboarding process.

We automatically collect certain technical data when you use the Platform: IP address, browser type, device identifiers, pages visited, referring URLs, and time spent on pages. This data is collected via cookies and similar tracking technologies.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to: process and fulfil your orders; manage your account; send transactional emails (receipts, shipping updates, password resets); respond to enquiries and provide customer support.

With your consent, we may send you marketing communications about new products, cultural events, and platform updates. You may opt out of these at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us directly.

We use aggregated, anonymised data for internal analytics to improve the Platform — understanding which product categories are popular, how users navigate the site, and identifying areas for improvement.

4. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.

We share data with trusted service providers who assist us in operating the Platform, including: payment processors (to handle transactions securely), logistics partners (to facilitate delivery), and cloud infrastructure providers (to host the Platform). These providers are contractually obligated to keep your data confidential and use it only for the services they provide to us.

We may disclose your information when required by law, to enforce our Terms of Service, to protect the rights or safety of our users, or in connection with a business transfer or acquisition.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you close your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within 90 days, except where we are required by law to retain it longer (e.g. transaction records for tax purposes — typically 7 years under Nigerian law).

You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at ijebuniwa@gmail.com. We will process your request within 30 days.

6. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to enhance your experience, remember your preferences, and understand how you interact with the Platform. There are three types of cookies we use:

Essential cookies — required for the Platform to function (e.g. keeping you logged in, maintaining your cart). These cannot be disabled.

Analytics cookies — help us understand usage patterns so we can improve the Platform. You may opt out of these via your browser settings.

Marketing cookies — used to deliver relevant promotions. You can manage these through your account preferences or browser settings.

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including SSL/TLS encryption for data in transit, encrypted storage for sensitive fields such as payment data, and access controls limiting who within our organisation can view personal data.

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account and to log out when using shared devices.

In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify affected users and relevant authorities as required by applicable law within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach.

8. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

Access — You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.

Correction — You may request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data.

Deletion — You may request erasure of your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements.

Portability — You may request that we provide your data in a machine-readable format.

Objection — You may object to certain processing activities, including direct marketing.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at ijebuniwa@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Children's Privacy

The Platform is not directed at children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If we discover that a child under 18 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly.

If you believe a minor has provided us with their data, please contact us immediately at ijebuniwa@gmail.com.

10. Third-Party Links

The Platform may contain links to third-party websites — for example, vendor social media profiles or external payment portals. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties and encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will notify registered users via email or a prominent notice on the Platform.

We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we are protecting your information.
